Brussels, 20 September 2017. On 22-24 September, during European Minerals Day 2017, more than 130 quarries and plants in 27 countries open their doors to the public. This unique pan-European event happening only once every two years, attracts around 30.000 people eager to find out what goes on behind the gates of a quarry, mine or plant, and have the opportunity to explore the world of minerals through the offered entertaining and educational experience. Typical activities include school visits, guided tours, workshops, exhibitions, biodiversity projects, and many more.

Participating countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Estonia,

Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia,

The second workshop of the EU-Canada Mineral Investment Facility Feasibility Study will be held in Toronto, Canada on November 15th, 2017. The purpose of the second workshop will be to present and discuss capital access, investment and business opportunities in exploration and mining, engage and network with all relevant stakeholders including industry, public authorities, academia and civil society, and allow all key stakeholders to share their opinion on the design, function, and scope of the proposed EU-Canada Mineral Investment Facility.

Council conclusions on a future EU industrial policy strategy

On 29 May, European Council unanimously agreed on the Council Conclusions proposed by the Maltese Presidency. Industry Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska stated in a press conference: “We all agreed on some key horizontal actions to be taken. We also agreed that we need some sectoral focus where it’s necessary” and concluded: “we are now much stronger equipped for the future discussions on the coherent unified industrial policy document in the European Commission”.
