Ensuring the Health of Europe’s Soil: A Collaborative Approach

At Euromines, we stand with the European Commission’s vision to safeguard soil health – a critical component of our ecosystem. Engaging constructively in the dialogue around the proposed Soil Monitoring Directive, we’ve contributed our perspective to the public consultation, reflecting our commitment to the objectives of the European Green Deal and sustainable soil management.

🔎 Our Perspective in Brief:

🔄 Integration Not Duplication: We push for a directive that complements, not complicates, existing laws like the Industrial Emissions Directive and the Mining Waste Directive.

🌈 Soil Diversity, Management Versatility: Europe’s soil varies widely – our approach should too. We’re for strategies that reflect the unique character of each region’s soil.

📌 Definition Matters: The term ‘soil’ should be precise. We argue that soil related to raw material extraction must be viewed distinctly to support EU’s raw material ambitions without overstepping Member State competencies.

✋ Industry Insight: We emphasize the importance of industry participation to ensure soil assessments are balanced and scientifically accurate.

We encourage a read of our position paper for a more in-depth understanding of our constructive proposals. Let’s work together for a sustainable future that values every grain of soil.
