Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland announced in KGHM

In the course of the last months the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has generated an unprecedented crisis. A number of coronavirus waves in Europe has affected all of us – our countries, our communities, our families. It has also influenced all of Europe’s industries, including the mineral raw material industry. In the past year our sector’s top priority has been to ensure the health and safety of our employees and to secure supplies of raw materials into the diversity of Europe’s supply chains amidst border closures and lockdown measures.

Our Polish member, KGHM Polska Miedź, in cooperation with Polish government are contributing a lot of effort to fight this worldwide pandemic. Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland was announced in KGHM last week.(link is external)

On 19 April, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, during a visit to the headquarters of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. in Lubin, announced new vaccination rules, including the launch of an enterprise vaccination system. The President of KGHM Marcin Chludziński assured that the company is ready to carry out the vaccination campaign for the employees.

The President of KGHM Marcin Chludziński stressed that the safety and health of employees is of paramount importance in the copper company. “Thanks to this approach, we are working without any interruptions related to the coronavirus pandemic. We are already preparing to organise vaccinations for all employees and I would like to thank you very much for this opportunity. We will be able to continue to work peacefully and meet our economic targets. This is how we understand our mission: we generate profits, provide work and invest”, added Marcin Chludziński, President of KGHM.

Earlier this year in February 2021, nearly a hundred beds for COVID – 19 patients are used in the new modular hospital that has been built at the Regional Specialist Hospital in Legnica(link is external). KGHM, in accordance with government instructions and in cooperation with the Ministry of State Assets, is responsible for organising temporary medical facilities in Lower Silesia.

In the end of last year, 27 thousand protective packs: masks and disinfectant fluids and information brochures reached the elderly of Lower Silesia and Lubuskie Voivodship.

Like most businesses, the mineral raw material industry is seriously and adversely affected by COVID – 19 but the safety of people must come before anything else. The sector’s permanent goal is to operate only when its people are safe and healthy, while safeguarding jobs and providing vital support to local communities and other stakeholders. This is especially true today.
