Occupational Health and Safety in the Spotlight

This week the Commission is renewing its commitment to update occupational safety and health rules by adopting the EU strategic framework on health and safety at work 2021-2027. It sets out the key actions needed to improve workers' health and safety over the coming years. Euromines Director Rolf Kuby highlights: “Safe and healthy working conditions are a top priority for the European mining industry. Euromines members seek continual improvement of good, safe and positive working conditions taking all protection measures necessary. Companies also frequently extend workforce health and wellbeing programmes to local communities and contractors, helping people in the surrounding areas.”

Winner of EUsalt Safety Award 2021‎ announced

Euromines’ member association EUsalt officially announced the winner of the EUsalt Safety Award 2021‎. The winner is Schweizer Salinen with the project “One step towards lean safety”. The multifaceted approach to health and safety at the workplace and the implementation of employee-oriented measures and user-friendly tools were particularly appreciated by the expert jury members. Euromines congratulates the winner and the EUsalt association on their achievements and excellent work.

Minerals and Metals Essential for Clean Energy Transition

The recently published Report from the International Energy Agency 'The Role of Critical Minerals in Clean Energy Transitions' reveals a number of key aspects for the clean energy transition. 'When we speak of climate change adaptation, the European mining sector can secure the availability of the essential materials for a modern, climate neutral and resource efficient economy', highlights Mark Rachovides, President of Euromines. Euromines is looking for a Manager – Energy and Climate to join its Brussels office. The Manager – Energy and Climate will represent the association towards EU institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament) and will provide specific support to individual Euromines Members. Through member coordination, the manager will develop and execute advocacy campaigns on main priorities in close coordination with the members and coordinate positions and advocacy with national and other European industry associations.

The annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. On this occasions Euromines is pleased to share the main deliverables of Project on Occupational Health and Safety. The project focused on identifying the current Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) status of the mineral raw materials resources industries in five EU Member States (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Spain) in cooperation with the National and European associations and federations of the EU mineral raw materials sector.

Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland announced in KGHM

In the course of the last months the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has generated an unprecedented crisis. A number of coronavirus waves in Europe has affected all of us – our countries, our communities, our families. It has also influenced all of Europe’s industries, including the mineral raw material industry. In the past year our sector’s top priority has been to ensure the health and safety of our employees and to secure supplies of raw materials into the diversity of Europe’s supply chains amidst border closures and lockdown measures.
Our Polish member, KGHM Polska MiedĹş, in cooperation with Polish government are contributing a lot of effort to fight this worldwide pandemic. Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland was announced in KGHM last week.

Circularity and resource efficiency concepts put into practice by LKAB

Euromines Announcing New Steering Committee

Euromines Steering Committee was elected at the General Assembly virtual meeting that took place on Wednesday 24th March 2021. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Mark Rachovides’ mandate, as Euromines President, was renewed for another two years. Mr. Roman Stiftner was re-elected as Vice President and Mr. Leif Boström remains as Treasurer of Euromines and was also elected as the Vice President.
