The SUSTAMINING project contributes to an improved natural stone sector in Europe. Cutting-edge exploration technology can be used in the natural stone extraction to reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of the sector. It increases safety on site by reducing unexpected cave-ins and reduces drilling. It allows for non-invasive determination of the stone quality and hence a more selective extraction which reduces wastes.

New publication “Implementing the EIP on Raw Materials in selected EU Member States”

A new publication “Implementing the EIP on Raw Materials in selected EU Member States” prepared by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in close cooperation with other partners, namely Euromines, IndustriAll, EURACOAL and the European Commission is just being published. The publication summarizes the work done in 2015 when the European Economic and Social Committee’s Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI) decided to hold four round tables – in Spain, Slovakia, Romania and Finland.

Annual Report 2014 is now available

Euromines Annual Report 2014 is now available. The theme of this year’s Annual Report is  based  on Euromines Raw Materials Campaign and includes three main chapters covering the topics Euromines deals with throughout the year. The first part focuses on sustainable supply of raw materials, sector competitiveness and new European Industrial Policy. Whereas the second chapter highlights the human factor and focuses on mining employment, local communities, innovation and health and safety. The third part describes the number of achievements in the field of environment and energy.

The study provides a complete, up-to-date and concise overview of the competitiveness of the European primary and secondary Mineral Raw Materials Sectors (MRMS). It focuses mainly on the non-energy extractive industries (NEEI) and the related recycling industries (RI).

INTRAW ‐ Fostering international cooperation on raw materials

In the last decade, a structural change has taken place in the world’s mineral markets and the global demand for raw materials stands at the bottom of a new growth curve. In this perspective, safeguarding the domestic minerals supply in a sustainable and responsible way will be challenging not only to Europe but also to other technologically advanced countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States. As part of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme for Research & Innovation (R&I), the new EU funded 36‐month project INTRAW has been launched in February 2015 to foster international cooperation on raw materials.

EESC Spanish Industrial Roundtable

Following its own commitment the EESC (European Economic and Social Committee’s) /Euromines/Euracoal have organised the first of 4 Industrial Roundtables in Madrid. Hosted by Confedem, the Spanish association, who has just joined Euromines, high level representatives of the Spanish government, the regional ministries, industry, unions and NGOs discussed the future policies for investment and development of the extractive sector in Spain.
