Euromines is looking for a Manager – Energy and Climate to join its Brussels office. The Manager – Energy and Climate will represent the association towards EU institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament) and will provide specific support to individual Euromines Members. Through member coordination, the manager will develop and execute advocacy campaigns on main priorities in close coordination with the members and coordinate positions and advocacy with national and other European industry associations.

One key element of implementing Europe’s Green Deal successfully must be increasing the resilience of value chains and returning value chains to Europe by setting the right framework conditions.

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will be responsible for running the Health & Safety Committee and, together with the team, work on a variety of topics related to the Commission Green Deal Ambition objectives & Zero Pollution Ambition, their regulatory developments, and their implementation within the sector.

The annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. On this occasions Euromines is pleased to share the main deliverables of Project on Occupational Health and Safety. The project focused on identifying the current Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) status of the mineral raw materials resources industries in five EU Member States (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Spain) in cooperation with the National and European associations and federations of the EU mineral raw materials sector.

Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland announced in KGHM

In the course of the last months the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has generated an unprecedented crisis. A number of coronavirus waves in Europe has affected all of us – our countries, our communities, our families. It has also influenced all of Europe’s industries, including the mineral raw material industry. In the past year our sector’s top priority has been to ensure the health and safety of our employees and to secure supplies of raw materials into the diversity of Europe’s supply chains amidst border closures and lockdown measures.
Our Polish member, KGHM Polska Miedź, in cooperation with Polish government are contributing a lot of effort to fight this worldwide pandemic. Launch of an enterprise vaccination system in Poland was announced in KGHM last week.

Euromines Steering Committee was elected at the General Assembly virtual meeting that took place on Wednesday 24th March 2021. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Mark Rachovides’ mandate, as Euromines President, was renewed for another two years. Mr. Roman Stiftner was re-elected as Vice President and Mr. Leif Boström remains as Treasurer of Euromines and was also elected as the Vice President.

Innovation Leader – Copper with a low CO2 footprint

Euromines is proud to announce that its member company Boliden is aiming to produce copper with low carbon footprint. As announced this week Boliden has concluded its first contracts for the supply of copper with a low CO2 footprint. This is one result of the development of two specific product categories within copper production, copper with a low carbon footprint and recycled copper. The first category is copper produced from concentrates originating from Boliden’s own mines, while the second category of copper is produced from secondary materials. For both, external audits of the calculation criteria have been carried out.

The competence and capability through the whole value chain from raw material extraction, battery production, recycling and re-use of raw materials makes this region the most advanced and valuable ecosystem for sustainable mining in Europe, crucial in realizing the European Green Deal.

Responsible Research and Innovation - RM@Schools - Success Story

Euromines is a proud partner of RM@Schools project that has been selected by the Social Lab 16 working group of the NewHoRRIzon Project as the examples of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) Projects inside the EIT program focused in Ethic dimension. Ethics is specifically about respecting fundamental rights and ethical standards in research and innovation, but also about asking what are potential long-term consequences of my project and how can I positively contribute to society. RRI is a key priority in Horizon2020 and the concept intends to bridge gaps between science, research and innovation communities and society.
