Innovation Leader – Copper with a low CO2 footprint

Euromines is proud to announce that its member company Boliden is aiming to produce copper with low carbon footprint. As announced this week Boliden has concluded its first contracts for the supply of copper with a low CO2 footprint. This is one result of the development of two specific product categories within copper production, copper with a low carbon footprint and recycled copper. The first category is copper produced from concentrates originating from Boliden’s own mines, while the second category of copper is produced from secondary materials. For both, external audits of the calculation criteria have been carried out.

The competence and capability through the whole value chain from raw material extraction, battery production, recycling and re-use of raw materials makes this region the most advanced and valuable ecosystem for sustainable mining in Europe, crucial in realizing the European Green Deal.

Euromines is a proud partner of RM@Schools project that has been selected by the Social Lab 16 working group of the NewHoRRIzon Project as the examples of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) Projects inside the EIT program focused in Ethic dimension. Ethics is specifically about respecting fundamental rights and ethical standards in research and innovation, but also about asking what are potential long-term consequences of my project and how can I positively contribute to society. RRI is a key priority in Horizon2020 and the concept intends to bridge gaps between science, research and innovation communities and society.

Rolf Kuby appointed as the new Director of Euromines

Euromines President Mr. Mark Rachovides officially announces that the Steering Committee has decided to appoint Mr. Rolf Kuby as the new Director of Euromines, starting 1 March 2021. Mr. Kuby's most recent roles were Head of EU Brussels Office of Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl and previously Director External Affairs and Head of EU office at Aurubius. He has an extensive experience with over 22 years in public affairs and EU advocacy and 8 years active involvement in sustainability strategies. Mr. Kuby is also a senior expert in EU Sustainability, Environment, Climate and Energy policies.

The main topic of the Hearing of CCMI 177 opinion was the Critical Raw Materials Resilience.
